Maine to Florida Pictures!
Sept 8
dublin ga to douglas ga
Today was to be a shorter day @ around 70 miles. Knowing that we started off slow.. However after 15miles and our first stop we slowly creapt up the speed... Not super fast but not slouching... Just fast enough so the saddle wasn't pressing too hard on our bottoms :)
We took turns pulling... Ron pulled the first 15 miles... I pulled the second, ron pulled the next 22ish miles and I pulled the last 22ish miles... All of the route was on US441 whichsounds like that would suck but actually 441 is a farly quiet road in mid/south georgia.
We got into town like before 1pm so we have lots of time to kill...
We realized we didn't take any pics on the road today so I snapped a pic of ron napping @ the pool!
Now time to relax... Enjoy some more downtime and then go hunt up some dinner!

n agusta to dublin ga
Woke up after a wonderful night's sleep... Packed up and headed out following gator's lead. He led us through to a very nice bike trail. We headed to a breakfast place but found it closed so we went to a huddle house and ate a nice breakfast of eggs hashbrowns bacon/sausage and a nice large waffle.
After breakfast gator lead us through agusta and across to us1 which was to be our main route out of town.
With a quick couple of pics and frendy gooodbyes we went onto us1 as gator turned to get back home. We went several miles on us1 wondering how bad it would be... Theshoulder had rumbles in it and the roadway looked as if it could be busy... Turns out there was not much traffic @because it was laborday@
After a bit we took a break. This was to be a 120mile day. Ron had pulled for a while and I decided to help out. The roads flatteded out and a light tailwind kicked up so I dropped down on the aerobars and rolled with it. Ron says though we only stopped once that I pulled 50miles @ 21 to 25mph. I was tired after that. We stopped @ a mcdonalds for lunch and I let ron pull.
He wasn't going slow but not as fast as I was going... It seemed he was working but I was ok with the speed... He said after several miles (i think we had 15miles to go) that he was trying to keep our average above 17.5mph. So I went back to the front to help out... (actually we woulda had a nice high ave but for not the cruzin on the bike trail... Rather ride the trail than work on an average!)
Anyway we ran into town of dublin and went to the hotel... We found a ruby tuesday for dinner which was really tasty!
We also started realzing that we were starting to speak in days remaining instead of days completed!

How do I begin... Today's ride was a religious experience? Because we ended in aubun md instead of worchester, we were 10 miles ahead for the next day (today) also we were a mile south of the course I planned to get to waterbery ct. So I decided to see if there was a course that would avoid the main state roads and us highways... Man what an amazing day it turned out to be.
Nearly from the start the route would turn off of a major road and even minor roads to be on some road going through some forest... I was unsure if we would hit a gravel road (the gps was set to avoid but not always does it)...
I had a happy grin for the first 40miles until my face was hurting from the smile... That's how amazing these conneticut roads were (and the massachusetts roads too)... We did hit route 66 during the second half of the day. It was a bit nasty but fortunatly I had picked a road to pull off of 66 and then we were back to amazing roads again...
One surprise when we went through coventry was the grave marker of nathan hale! Wow... To run into such a historical site without expecting... We stopped to pay homage and moved on.
We ate lunch at a subway in milford ct..
The final point was when we were about 5miles out from then end of the 100 mile day was a mile long 8%ish grade for at least a mile! Ouch my legs are sore!
Speaking of legs the left itb is feeling better... I iced it last night and I used lower gears today.. Yes I used the granny gear... On the last big climb and on a steep greater than 10 percent road called boston hill road....
Ok now for the stats and pics... Here are the stats...
